Nitzavim
Deuteronomy 29:9 – 30:20
On the last day of his life, Moses gathers all of Israel — leaders and laborers, men and women, children and strangers — and renews the covenant, declaring that it binds not only those present but all future generations. He warns against secret idolatry and promises that after exile and suffering, God will restore Israel if they return with all their heart. Moses insists that the Torah is not in heaven or across the sea but 'very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.' The parasha culminates in the ultimate existential choice: 'I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse — choose life.'
