Moreover he made an altar of brass - This is not mentioned in Kings. According to Rabbi Yose in Zevachim (59a), Solomon did not make the bronze altar until the time of the [Temple's] dedication, because Moses’ bronze altar was too small to hold [all the offerings]. But from the plain sense of the text it appears that Ezra teaches us according to the view of Rabbi Yehudah in Zevachim (ibid.) - that what is stated in Kings (I Kings 8:64), “on that day the king consecrated the middle of the court,” is to be taken literally, and that Solomon’s altar already existed from the outset, as the wording of the text (II Chronicles 7:7) also indicates. According to Rabbi Yose, one must strain the interpretation of the verses, as I wrote in my commentary on Kings there. As for “he made an altar of brass” - this means a stone altar in place of Moses’ bronze altar. And as for “twenty cubits its length” - this refers to the area of the wood-pile (the ma’arachah), which was twenty cubits by twenty.

And the entry - This corresponds to what is stated there [in Kings] as “u-fotot,” meaning the door-sockets (hinge-pivots); the sense is that the door-sockets of the house - for its inner doors of the Holy of Holies, and for the doors of the house, the Temple hall - were of gold.
