Obadiah עֹבַדְיָה

Obadiah (Ovadyah) is the shortest book in the Hebrew Bible — a single chapter, twenty-one verses — and the whole of it is the vision of Edom's reckoning. For the violence done to his brother Jacob, for standing on the other side in the day of disaster, for entering the gate of His people in the day of their calamity, Esau's mountain is sentenced: 'Though you make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down.' The book closes past Edom to the day of Hashem upon all the nations, deliverance on mount Zion — 'and the kingdom shall be Hashem's.' The Sages identify the prophet with the Obadiah who hid a hundred prophets in the days of Ahab, a proselyte of Edom whose own mouth pronounces Edom's doom.
