Ezekiel יְחֶזְקֵאל

Ezekiel prophesies from exile in Babylon, by the river Chebar — a priest carried off with the first captivity. His book opens with the overwhelming vision of the divine chariot and the glory of Hashem, and unfolds in three great movements: relentless warning of Jerusalem's fall, sealed by sign-acts and by the departure of the glory from the Temple; oracles of doom against the surrounding nations, above all Tyre and Egypt; and, once the city has fallen, consolation — the watchman restored, the promise of a new heart, the shepherd of the house of David, the dry bones raised to life, and the defeat of Gog. It closes with the long, exact vision of a restored Temple, its returning glory, and a land re-apportioned around the city whose name is 'The LORD is there.' Ezekiel is the prophet of God's holiness and His name, and of the truth that each soul answers for itself.
